Christmas Tree Recylcing in Upland

From 12/26 to 1/9, you can set your Christmas tree out on your curb on your designated trash day (sans ornaments, tinsel, tree stands, etc) and it will be picked up to be turned into useful mulch.

Trees taller that 6 ft must be cut in half or it will not be taken and neither will flocked trees.

Here's the bonus, on Saturday 1/31/09, you can get mulch, made from those trees, at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center located at 1370 N. Benson from 9am to 2pm. Proof of Upland residency is required. ...Read more!

Free Picture with Santa

Look, it's what kids do. They cry at Santa. Handing my son to Santa is like trying to put a cat into a bathtub. This year, you can do it all for free. Bass Pro Shop at Victoria Gardens has a free pic with Santa, no strings attached. When I took the family there was no line and a very helpful staff. They snapped off two pictures, printed them and handed them over without any sales pitch. The envelope had a website that you could go to for extra photos and what not if you want to buy them. I kept waiting for the hard sell or to be offered the deluxe package...but nothing. Awesome.

AAAAAA+++++ Will do business again!!!

The Star is back

In Upland, the star at the top of Euclid stars the Christmas season. It's ushered in Christmas since the 1950's, except for when in 2006 some A-Holes stole all of the copper wiring (surely not Upland folk...I'm looking at you Montclair) to recycle for cash.

For the record, the property has been owned by 4 different people and all have kept up the tradition. The current wiseman is Ken Petschow. Surely, if there was an Upland Hall of fame, you'd be in it. ...Read more!

32nd Annual Christmas Parade held 12/6

I'm sorry that I don't have any pics of the parade but here's the run-down. Farmers Market+Old Cars+Lots of Kids+Santa=Grand Ole Time. Upland's Downtown is made for this sort of thing and the organizers did a great job. Also, the perfect amount of people showed up, it was packed enough to look important but not too much to cause problems. The UHS band sounded great and and given how hard kids (mostly Boy Scouts) were throwing candy towards the parade watchers, our Little Leagues will be stocking the Big Leagues with loads of talent in a few years. I showed up about 4:40 and only parked about 2 small blocks away so parking wasn't an issue. I did see a lot of lowriders in the event which is odd. I always assumed that old (Stock) classic cars were invited because of the whole Route 66 thing so I'm not sure where slammed Impalas fit in.

A fun time was had by all and it is added to my list of Upland Christmas Musts. Other Upland Christmas must-sees are the Metro Santa Train and seeing the Upland Christmas Star. ...Read more!
